Lawrence Tynes kicked 13 field goals and 12 extra-points in the month of October, enough to make him one of the most important Giants in the midst of the current four-game winning streak and also earn him NFC Special Teams Player of the Month. Tynes capped the tenth page on the calendar by tying a career-high with five field goals against the Cowboys, including two in the fourth quarter that gave the Giants the lead and then increased their lead to more than a field goal.
The only kick Tynes has missed this month was a block by the 49ers.
Tynes leads the NFL with 26 field goal attempts, 24 field goals and 94 points, 14 more than runner-up Steve Gostkowski of New England. Tynes is on pace to shatter the single-season franchise records for field goals (35, accomplished three times, most recently by John Carney in 2008) and points (148 by Jay Feely in 2005). He has made 92.3 percent of his field goal attempts, which would be another record if he maintains that pace.
He is also the first Giants kicker – and third player – to win the Special Teams Player of the Month Award since it was instituted in 1986. The only other Giants to win the award were linebacker Jessie Armstead in November 1993 and punter Rodney Williams in September 2001.
