Mathias Kiwanuka expects Fewell to figure out LB situation

When Mathias Kiwanuka was a defensive end, the question he was always asked was: How will the coaches get everyone on the field? The team had Kiwi and Osi and Tuck and even Strahan at the position and there were really only two spots for the four of them.

Kiwanuka moved from defensive end to linebacker, in part to use his athleticism in a different way and in part to alleviate the logjam at defensive end that was only added to with Jason Pierre-Paul’s arrival. But now, what was always a relatively thin group at linebacker is as robust as the one at defensive end used to be.

The projected starters as of now ar Kiwanuka, Chase Blackburn and Michael Boley. But Keith Rivers has been playing for Boley while he has missed most of the preseason with a hamstring issue. And then there’s Jacquian Williams and Mark Herzlich.

How are all of these guys going to play?

“We’ve been in that situation here a few times,” Kiwanuka said. “It’s a good problem to have. I think what the Giants coaching staff and the coordinators in particular have done a very good job of is getting talent on the field. So if (Perry Fewell) has to come up with a new package or new personnel to get everybody out there, then he’s going to do it depending on how we match up against other teams.”
