Newsday's Tom Rock looks at five players that the Giants could target in free agency.

There aren’t many enticing options in free agency or the draft when it comes to safety, so when the Patriots did not franchise Devin McCourty he immediately became the best option at the position. The New Jersey product would likely replace Antrel Rolle if he signs with the Giants and Rolle leaves.

C.J. Spiller won’t be back in Buffalo after the Bills acquired LeSean McCoy in a trade with the Eagles. Jerry Reese has expressed a desire to replace David Wilson’s big-play threat in the backfield, and Spiller could be the home run hitter the Giants want.

The Giants seem to have four of their five o-line starters in place and need a fifth. Bryan Bulaga could push Justin Pugh to a guard position. Other o-line options include Orlando Franklin and Mike Iupati. Or they can draft a starting lineman for the third straight year.

Assuming the Giants don’t make a legitimate push for Ndamukong Suh, they might be able to pursue the player who has been in his shadow for several years. Nick Fairley has had off-the-field issues and some have questioned his desire, but he can clog the middle.

RANDALL COBB, WR

Victor Cruz said last year he wanted to fill the “Randall Cobb role” in Ben McAdoo’s offense. With the Giants unsure of Cruz’s return to form, who better to take on that responsibility than Cobb himself? With Cobb, Cruz, Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle at receiver, Eli Manning might pass out from excitement.
