NFL preseason Week 1, Game 2 for Giants starters
The Giants play their second preseason game on Saturday, but it's more like game 1A.
Because they played in the Hall of Fame Game last Sunday, they're a week ahead of the rest of the league (except for the Buffalo Bills, their opponent in that game, of course). The Steelers are opening their schedule on Saturday at MetLife Stadium against the Giants, for example. All of which muddles the usual way of doing business.
Normally the starters will play a full quarter or even stay in until close to halftime in the second game. This Saturday, Coughlin said that won't be the case.
"Our guys will play the same amount or maybe a little bit more than they did before," he said of the starters who went about 15 snaps against the Bills. "I still want to see, if we can, everyone who is dressed. If they are able to play, I would like to see them all."
Two players who have been practicing but won't play in the upcoming game are cornerback Trumaine McBride (hip) and left tackle Will Beatty (leg). Both are coming off injuries and are on a preordained schedule that has them not seeing game action until next weekend against the Colts in the Giants' third preseason game ... during Week 2 of the preseason.
