Chris Canty thought there was a “outside shot” that he would be activated and ready to practice when training camp began. He quickly found out that he would not be. The defensive tackle was placed on PUP at the start of camp and has yet to practice with the team. He said it’s frustrating, especially considering he’s sitting out still recovering from surgery on a knee injury that he played through at the end of the regular season and playoffs.

Canty had no word on how long it would take for him to get back on the field. “It’ll be ready,” he said. “When it’s ready, we’ll go.”

Coughlin said on Thursday that Canty would be sidelined “a while.” Canty's not sure how long that ambiguous timeframe will be.

“If boss said it is going to be a while, it is going to be a while,” Canty said. “He is the man. If coach says it is going to be a while, it is going to be a while. Obviously I feel pretty good. The competitive nature of a player is to want to go out there and compete and they have to protect us from even ourselves sometimes.”

Canty said one of the reasons he wants to be out there is what he had to listen to during the offseason from fellow NFL players.

“Some of the things that you heard around the league, in this offseason, amongst peers, is this Giants team was lucky last year,” Canty said. “They were lucky. They just fell into the Super Bowl and it happened. I think a lot of guys take that personal. Obviously it is fuel to the fire, it is motivation to prove that this is a good football team. We understand how to win, we understand what it takes to be successful and guys were excited to get back here and get back to work.”
