Odell Beckham Jr. ready for Giants to fly by that 30-point mark

It’s been over two full seasons, a total of 34 games, since the Giants were able to score 30 points in a game. It was so long ago that only three offensive players remain on the team from the last time it happened in the 2015 regular-season finale.
It’s a streak that baffles Odell Beckham Jr., one of those three remnants along with Eli Manning and Ereck Flowers.
“I feel like there’s no way you can’t score a touchdown in every quarter, and one somewhere else,” he said, doing the math to get to 35 points (assuming all converted extra points). “It just doesn’t seem unrealistic to me.”
It shouldn’t. Certainly not with the personnel the Giants have on offense. In fact, Beckham laid out his ideal division of labor to finally achieve a high-scoring game.
“I feel personally I could score two touchdowns every game,” he said. “I feel like Saquon [Barkley] could score two every game. There are other people on this team who could score every single game. That’s over 35 points. It’s just a matter of executing it and making it happen, really. But it doesn’t seem out of reach for me in my mind.”
For 34 straight games, though, it has been. It’s the longest streak of games in which the Giants have failed to score at least 30 points in any single contest since they went 57 straight from 1975 to 1979. For reference, anytime anything is related to the Giants of the late 1970s, it’s not good.
The strange part about the current dry spell is that it includes a season in which the Giants won 11 games and made the playoffs. Of course it also includes last year’s 3-13 misery and this year’s 0-2 start.
Beckham said he’s not just looking to get to 30 points on Sunday against the Texans, he wants to obliterate the barrier.
“I don’t want to win 24-21,” he said. “I’m trying to win 52-18, or whatever they score. Zero. Nobody said it had to be close.”
