Osi heading to ATL for knee

Osi Umenyiora will get off his bike and fly to Atlanta to see a specialist about his sore knee, according to his agent.

Tony Agnone, who is representing Umenyiora in his showdown with the Giants, said the defensive end will be visiting the city where he keeps his offseason home sometime this week. “Hopefully we can figure out how to get this guy back on the field,” Agnone said.

Many believe it that could be more of a job for an accountant than a doctor. Umenyiora arrived at training camp a day late and has sat out all eight practices since. In almost all of those workouts he spends the first portion of his time riding an exercise bicycle with other injured players.

While Umenyiora’s camp has dangled the idea of surgery to repair his knee, it is widely believed that his sore knee is a strategy in his battle with the team over his contract.

Umenyiora has two years remaining but has said he was promised either a new deal or a trade to a team that will give him one.

The sides have reportedly exchanged ideas on settling their differences but have so far not come close to reconciling. Agnone said the sides had discussions yesterday but “nothing exciting” came of them.
