Shaun O'Hara is making progress with his injury, especially now that he thinks he knows what he's dealing with.

For several weeks, O'Hara was being treated as if Achilles tendinosis was the cause of the pain that has been hounding him since the start of training camp. But after visiting ankle specialist Dr. Martin O'Malley last week, his treatment has changed for the better. "We were treating the Achilles and the Achilles actually is fine," O'Hara said Monday. "It's actually more like a bursitis that we're dealing with. Once we got that figured out and injected the bursa [with a cortisone shot Thursday], things seemed to really calm down."

To the point that O'Hara will try to participate in practice Wednesday. He said he was frustrated by the injury because he never had a timeline for recovery. "This was really testing me on a daily basis," he said. Now that the change has been made, he's much more optimistic.

Bradshaw's ankle sore

After he spent most of last season in a protective boot and had three surgeries during the offseason, any nick on Ahmad Bradshaw is cause for alarm. The running back limped off the field twice in Sunday's win over the Bears and Tom Coughlin said Bradshaw was "sore" yesterday. "They're going to do all the tests," Coughlin said. Exams are expected to take place Tuesday.

Giant steps

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said WR Andre Johnson, who missed Sunday's game with a hamstring injury, will be day-to-day right up to the game against the Giants . . . FB Madison Hedgecock suffered a strained hamstring against the Bears.
