Plaxico visits and gets welcomed by Giants

He caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII but for the last few years, Plaxico Burress has not exactly been a welcomed figure at the Giants' facility. Until now.

The recently retired wide receiver was a guest at training camp practice Tuesday, strolling the sideline during the workout and catching up with some of his former teammates and coaches. It is believed to be Burress' first visit to the Giants' facility since he met with Tom Coughlin and Jerry Reese to "clear the air" in the summer of 2011. He signed with the Jets shortly after that and finished his career with the Steelers.

Burress and the Giants shared some great moments, but went through a bitter divorce when he accidentally shot himself in the leg with an illegal handgun in a New York City nightclub in November 2008. The Giants seemed poised to make another Super Bowl run at that point but the rest of their season fizzled. Burress soon was released by the team and spent nearly two years in prison for the incident. Burress and Coughlin spoke briefly on the field after practice and for several minutes inside the facility following the workout Tuesday.

Rodgers-Cromartie quiet to point

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is not a trash-talker by nature. But he can be provoked. "If you catch a ball, and you know how they do that [signaling for a first down] and all that celebration, I'm not with all that," the cornerback said. "I'm already mad you caught it, so doing that is going to bring more out of me. It's easy to get me going, and when I get going, I'm going."

Giant steps

WRs Victor Cruz (knee) and Marcus Harris (hip) returned to practice . . . Eli Manning continued to refine his connection with Rueben Randle, hitting the receiver for a long completion in practice . . . Offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said Larry Donnell is distinguishing himself in a wide-open competition at tight end.
