After a month-long hospital stay, Giants rookie Chad Jones is expected to be released Tuesday and will head back home to New Orleans, the team announced.

The third-round draft pick was transferred to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan on June 29 after suffering serious injuries to his left leg and ankle when he lost control of his car and crashed into a pole on June 24. Police later stated that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the wreck.

Jones underwent several surgeries in both his hometown and in New York since the accident.

“Chad is in great spirits and excited to be getting out of the hospital,” Giants VP of medical services Ronnie Barnes, who visited Jones on Tuesday morning, told the Associated Press. “All has gone well thus far for Chad, and he will return in probably six to eight weeks for another surgical procedure.”

Jones plans to return to New York for his additional surgery.

The Giants, who open training camp Sunday at the University at Albany, has neither made a roster move with Jones -- who signed a contract about a week before the accident --nor discussed how his injuries might affect his career.
