Sage holds, Reynaud receives, and Coughlin wishes Andre Brown luck in Denver

A few other notes from Tom Coughlin’s presser. We get into the locker room around 12:30 to talk to the players:
Sage Rosenfels was working on holding for kicker Lawrence Tynes after practice. A sign that the Giants are unhappy with Matt Dodge’s job there, especially after bobbling a hold against the Patriots?
“He’s got to be ready,” Coughlin said. “He’s not THE holder but he has to be ready. Every one of these positions has to be backed up.”
Coughlin also said newcomer Darius Reynaud will be used primarily as a wide receiver on offense, the position he played in college before the Vikings tried to convert him to a running back. He’ll be the starting punt returner, but Coughlin seemed less certain of his role on kickoff returns.
One of the ones who got away was Andre Brown, claimed off waivers by the Broncos.
“It’s a numbers thing,” Coughlin said. “Decisions have to be made with regard to numbers. We knew that at more than one spot there was risk involved, and unfortunately Andre was claimed and we just wish him well, that’s all. Decisions have to be made. People always ask about the tough decisions. Yeah it’s tough. You hope it’s tough. It better be tough.”
“You had to sit down and evaluate over the course of the entire preseason,” Coughlin added on the subject of it being tough. “It was tough with regard to some people no doubt.”
He also suggested that the Giants won’t be making any roster moves. At least not in the immediate future.
“This week it’s our 53,” he said. “Who knows after that.”
