Woolfolk carries 43 times
The Giants' Butch Woolfolk tied an NFL record with 43 carries in a 23-0 win over the Eagles at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. Woolfolk ran for 159 yards and a second-quarter 11-yard touchdown. Ali Haji-Sheikh kicked field goals of 25, 48 and 27 yards. John Tuggle closed out the scoring with a 7-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter. The Giants limited the Eagles to 10 rushing yards on nine carries and 79 total yards and four first downs. Harry Carson, Lawrence Taylor and George Martin had sacks. The victory ended a seven-game winless streak (0-6-1) for the Giants, who then lost their final four games to finish 3-12-1. The Eagles dropped to 4-8 in a 5-11 season. Woolfolk finished the season with a career-high 857 yards and four touchdowns on 246 carries as the Giants' main back, starting all 16 games. He was the Giants'first-round pick, 18th overall, in the 1982 draft out of Michigan.
