Thomas says Cutler's drop is unusual
One of the things that makes Bears quarterback Jay Cutler so effective, Terrell Thomas said, is not only how deep he drops back into the pocket but the way he does it.
“It’s weird because he backpeddles out of it, which is very different for a quarterback,” Thomas said. “That’s why you see him overthrow a couple of balls because his feet are not set. Hopefully he does that against us and we can get a couple of picks.”
Thomas said he can think of another quarterback who does that.
“He’s very similar to Brett Favre in that way,” Thomas said. “Brett Favre is more fundamental in his backdrop. But they both throw with their arms and not with their legs.”
Does the defense have any advantage in that regard?
“None,” Thomas said. “He can make the same throws. Nine out of 10 times he’s going to put it right there. He trusts himself.”
Thomas also said the back-peddling means the defensive backs need to be ready. “You never really know when the ball is coming out,” he said.
