Tom Coughlin almost certainly will talk to the team Wednesday about Veterans Day and there probably will be several active service members or Wounded Warriors on hand at practice. And that's why he is the team's nominee for the "Salute to Service Award" which will be presented by USAA at the end of the season.

The award, presented annually by USAA and the NFL, honors a league member who demonstrates an exemplary commitment to honoring and supporting the military community. USAA is the Official Military Appreciation Sponsor of the NFL.

Coughlin was nominated by the Giants because of his long-time military appreciation efforts. Coughlin appreciates frequent visits with military, including those from Wounded Warriors. Coughlin also attended a USO trip to the Middle East in 2009, where he visited with military personnel.

Each team nominates one member of their organization - player, coach, front office or owner - for the award. The finalists will be announced in January and the winner will be recognized at the fifth annual NFL Honors awards show in San Francisco the night before Super Bowl 50.

Past winners of the award include Jared Allen (2014), John Harbaugh (2013), Charles Tillman (2012) and the late owner of the Titans Bud Adams, a WWII veteran (2011).
