Coughlin sticking with Gilbride as OC

Despite the first home shutout since 1995, the first season with two shutouts since 1996, a quarterback on the verge of setting the franchise record for most interceptions in a season and the first losing season since 2004, Tom Coughlin said that he’s sticking with offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride.
Asked if he continues to have faith in his offensive coaches, Coughlin said simply: “Yes. Oh yeah.”
Well, what else would he say? At this point, probably nothing. And there’s a chance that at the end of the year someone who outranks Coughlin will make a decision over his head to part ways with the offensive coordinator who has won two Super Bowls. But for now, it appears that Coughlin is sticking with Gilbride moving forward.
He was asked if he still believes that, with proper and healthy personnel, Gilbride’s systems and philosophies can translate into wins. “That’s exactly right,” he said.
The problem is that the proper and healthy personnel part has been lacking this season, mainly up front. This is a team that had to rely on Jim Cordle as a starter, remember, and then had to replace him after he hurt his knee. Not to take anything away from Cordle, but not having Chris Snee all year and shuffling the configuration of the line hasn’t helped.
Add in the rotation at running back from David Wilson to Da’Rel Scott to Andre Brown and it’s been difficult to get an offensive rhythm.
“It certainly hasn’t been a connect-all-the-dots-from-day-one type of year, but Kevin is a pro, he’s been around, he’s done this a long time,” Coughlin said. “We try to find ways to take advantage of things. It’s not been easy.”
But it sounds like Gilbride will continue to get the opportunity to try moving forward.
