NFL commissioner Roger Goodell expressed some disappointment about the frequent - ok, incessant - F-bombs thrown around on HBO's Hard Knocks by Jets coach Rex Ryan and several others on his staff. But Goodell stopped short of saying he was prepared to take any action against the Jets as a result.
"Obviously, at times you’re going to get language that’s not appropriate for all ages," Goodell said this morning on ESPN's Mike & Mike radio show. "It’s something that we’re not proud of, but it is the reality of what’s happening in those camps."
Translation: Despite any discomfort about the negative publicity surrounding the cursing, he won't issue any fines or suggest that the language be curtailed or edited out of the show.
"That’s why that show is so popular," Goodell said of the unscripted behind-the-scenes behavior. "One of the things that is interesting is that show is most popular with the casual fan who really doesn’t get the opportunity to see what happens in football, and that’s intriguing to them."
