Goodell wants HGH testing this year
Commissioner Roger Goodell Tuesday reiterated his hope that the NFL would institute HGH testing for all players this season.
"I certainly hope so. It's our intention to do it as soon as possible," Goodell said at a media briefing for the 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. "We're waiting to hear back from the union. You'd have to talk to the union, not me."
The league believed it had an agreement with the NFL Players Association, but the union has resisted implementing the program because it wants further information from the World Anti-Doping Association, which has briefed both sides on its testing procedures for Olympic athletes.
Union spokesman George Atallah did not respond to requests for comment.
"We hope sooner rather than later," Goodell said of starting the testing program. "We wanted to start it at the beginning of the regular season."
