Ok, we get it that every great running back wants to get the ball as much as possible. But THIS many times?

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, frustrated over his lack of action in last Thursday's opener against the Saints, said he'd like to carry the ball a bunch more. As in, historically more.

His ideal number of carries?

"About 40, 50 carries [a game]," he said, per Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "That would be lovely. I would love that."

It would also be insane. Let's say the Vikings split the difference and gave him 45 carries a game. Over a full season, that would average out to 720 carries. How insance is that? Consider that the NFL record for most carries in a single season is 416, set in 2006 by former Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.

Of course, the Vikings won't come near that total, but they will seek to increase his workload moving forward. Peterson had only six carries in the second half after rushing for 57 yards on 13 carries in the first half of Minnesota's 14-9 loss to the Saints. The Vikings had only 19 offensive plays in the second half.

"It got to a point where I think there were four drives in a row where the first play was a run, so I said, 'Hey, I need to change that up the first play of the series,'" offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said. "I critique myself just like I critique these guys, and probably could have run the ball more."
