Is Marshawn Lynch about to be an ex-Bills running back?
Sounds like Bills new head coach Chan Gailey isn't necessarily sold on former first-round running back Marshawn Lynch as his franchise runner.
Gailey was asked by reporters this morning at the scouting combine in Indianapolis if he was open to trading Lynch (pictured), who was suspended for three games last season for repeated off-field issues. Gailey didn't shoot down the talk.
"Marshawn is an excellent football player," Gailey said. "The guy's extremely talented, can catch the ball, can run it. He can run with power. he can get around the edge. He's a very good football player. I hope we're able to take him and use him."
He didn't elaborate on whether he'd like to take him and use him as a player, or as part of a trade package.
"We have a couple guys that are good football players at that position, and we need to build off that," Gailey said.
Gailey was most likely referencing Fred Jackson, who rushed for 291 yards while filling in for Lynch the first three weeks last season. The undrafted 29-year old ended up usurping Lynch's starting spot and finished with 1,062 yards rushing, 371 receiving, and four total TDs.
As for whether Lynch's character comes into the equation, Gailey said: "I don't know. I've not had a chance to meet him. He hasn't been back in town. So I haven't had a chance to talk with him, and I hope I have a chance to do that shortly. I don't know that answer."
Hmmm.
