Janoris Jenkins unplugged

JANORIS JENKINS
Cornerback, North Alabama
Is he a first-rounder or isn’t he? Based on talent, the former Florida star should go high in the first round. Based on his troubled past, Jenkins might end up in the second round. There is no question that Jenkins has a ton of talent. He ran a 4.46 in the 40 at the Combine and ended up with a grade of 91.5. Jenkins (5-10, 193) had plenty of off-the-field problems at Florida, which led to his transfer to North Alabama. Obviously, that is a red flag for NFL teams. Still, Jenkins is a top-notch cover corner. It will be interesting to see where and when he goes in the draft. Jenkins has big-time ability and should be a first-round pick. But his problems at Florida could scare teams away.

North Alabama cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who was kicked off the Florida team because of multiple arrests and caused concerns among NFL scouts because he has four children with three different women, was drafted in the second round by the Rams.
The team is coached by Jeff Fisher, who once drafted another controversial cornerback, Pacman Jones, when he was with the Tennessee Titans.
But Jenkins said he shouldn't be compared to Jones. In an interview with SIRIUS XM Radio's Adam Schein, Jenkins was asked if Fisher may have been interseted in him because of any similarities to Jones, who has had repeated off-field problems.
"I mean, no, because I never shot up a strip club or nothing like that,” Jenkins said.
Jones was involved in a triple shooting in a Las Vegas strip club in 2007, an incident that eventually led to a year-long suspension.
Jenkins concedes off-field issues caused him to slide.
“I know my off the field issue was a factor,” he said. "But, you know, my past is my past, I put that behind me. And everybody that skipped over me, they just gonna pay for it.”
Jenkins said he has changed and won't make any more mistakes.
“When they get to know me, once you guys get to know me, I’m gonna be a role model for the kids outside of football,” Jenkins said. “Y’all are gonna realize that I’m not a bad person, I just made a few mistakes and I learned from them. And y’all are also getting a great football player that’s gonna buy into the program.”
