Mark Brunell's agent denied a report that the 41-year-old quarterback plans to retire.

The Jets backup QB has not filed his retirement papers, but the Florida Times-Union wrote on Monday that he plans to walk away from the game unless a team shows unexpected interest.

But Brunell's agent, Bruce Tollner, told Newsday the rumors of the QB's career coming to a close are not true.

Still, given his age, it won't be easy for Brunell to sign on with an NFL club.

In response to fans on Twitter, Brunell denied he was calling it quits.

Asked "is it true that you're retiring?" he wrote back one word: "Nope."

When one follower tweeted to him "u hanging it up? Helluva run,” Brunell responded: "Not at all."

But his own comments in the Times-Union article made it seen that he's leaning toward retirement.

"Most guys that have trouble leaving the game are in their 20s," the quarterback told the Florida T-U on Monday. "I've been preparing for football to be over with for quite some time."

Brunell signed a two-year deal with the Jets back in 2010 and spent the past two seasons as Mark Sanchez's backup.

"Tim (Tebow) and Mark are going to work well together, I think they complement each other very well," Brunell, who, in the winter made it clear he wanted to keep playing, told the newspaper. "Tim is going to be a great teammate. You can't have enough Tim Tebows on your roster."

Brunell amassed 32,072 yards and 184 touchdowns during his 19 seasons with the Packers (who selected him in the fifth-round of the 1993 draft), Jaguars, Redskin, Saints and Jets. He also rushed for 2,421 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Brunell told the F T-U he plans to move to Jacksonville -- where he was a three-time Pro Bowler for the Jaguars between 1995 and 2003 -- and, after taking a year off, hopes to get into coaching or business.
