CORTLAND – As expected, Chris Ivory didn't practice Thursday after experiencing more hamstring tightness during drills the day before.

“Thought I was ready, but I ain’t ready yet,” the running back said Wednesday, after walking off the practice field with head trainer John Mellody.

Ivory’s only full day of training camp practice came Monday due to tightness he experienced before camp. And now it’s unclear when he’ll hit the field again.

“I’m getting a little impatient,” he said, adding that he didn’t expect to practice Thursday. “It’s a little frustrating. I’m just waiting to be out there. So I can get my timing and everything down.

“I’ve got to get out there,” he added. “But once I get healthy, I’ll be out there.”

Rex Ryan has raved about the stout running back, who spent three years stuck behind big-name guys in New Orleans. But Ivory has yet to consistently show his potential on the practice field since training camp began.

“Well, I hope to get him out there soon," the Jets coach said. "He’s got his strength and everything, but apparently, when he would lift his leg all the way (up) or something, he could feel it tighten. I lean on J-Mell for that. I thought he would be progressing a little bit better than he has.

"Hopefully, it’s just a matter of time before he gets back out there because we all want to see. But you also don’t want him to re-injure the thing. If it’s not healed, you don’t want to put him out there.”

While Ivory admitted he feels he’s “kinda starting off on the wrong foot.”

“I feel like I could bring a lot to the table,” he said Wednesday. “I’m physical. But when time says, ‘Chris, you’re ready.’ I’ll be out there.’ Right now I’m just trying to get 100 percent healthy. And we’ll see from there."

In time, he added, all the training camp talk about his hamstring will be forgotten.
"Especially when the season starts, all of this will be bypassed,” he said. “I haven’t practiced yet, so it’s not like I’ve been out there and then got hurt,” he said. “I had a problem before I got here, so it’s one of those things we’re just trying to correct right now. So when I do get out there, and I am ready 100 percent…and I can remain healthy, I think all this,” he said, motioning to the reporters around him, “people will look past all this."
