CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Darrelle Revis was forced to sit out most of Sunday's practice due to a tight hamstring.

But the Jets start cornerback contended afterward that the injury was in fact legit, and not a tactical move.

“I knew you were going to bring that up. Come on now,” Revis responded to a reporter who asked if it was contract related. “Nah. It has nothing to do with that. I’m here. If I wasn’t going to be here, I would have held out. That’s not the case.”

Revis participated in individual drills but shortly thereafter, he was spotted on the sidelines stretching out his legs every so often. Before the morning practice session ended, the Jets pulled reporters to the side and announced Revis’ injury.

The Pro Bowl defensive back told reporters he felt good this morning and was prepared to partake in 7-on-7s and team drills, but – on advice from head trainer John Mellody – secondary coach Dennis Thurman told Revis, “you’re down.”

Revis said he isn’t worried about the injury and expects to practice Monday.

“I just think it’s just the process of just getting back into it,” he said. “We ran a conditioning test the day before. And we’ve been doing a lot of work. Practice has been a little bit more intense this year. And I think that’s because of coach (Tony) Sparano coming in, and it’s kind of fast-paced for the offense now. I think it’s just a bunch of reps we’ve been taking and we’re just trying to be real cautious now.”

Revis wouldn’t say which hamstring was bothering him, but said it’s not the same one that’s hampered him in recent years.

After his 36-day holdout in 2010, he suffered a strained hamstring that began a recurring issue for him that season. He missed two games that year in Weeks 3 and 4 (Miami and Buffalo) and it cropped up again as the Jets prepared for the AFC title game in Pittsburgh.
