Well, that didn’t take long.

The comments of Rex Ryan, LaRon Landry, Calvin Pace and Aaron Maybin have struck a nerve with the Dolphins – and they fired back in a big way Thursday.

Miami center Mike Pouncey called Aaron Maybin “a joke,” in response to the outside linebacker’s comments about Reggie Bush.

On Wednesday, Maybin told ESPNNewYork.com:  “We want to knock him out, but we’re out to do it legally.”

And that, of course, didn’t sit well with Bush’s teammates.

“We hear all the talking,” Dolphins right guard Richie Incognito said, according to the Sun-Sentinel. “We understand it’s part of Jets week. All the talking stops on Sunday.”

But since it’s not Sunday yet, there appears to be plenty of time for trash talk between both camps.

Yesterday, Jets safety LaRon Landry said Reggie Bush will remember him and his hard-hitting ways when the running back takes the field this weekend at MetLife Stadium.

“For me, if I get penalized I’m not going to stop headhunting, I’m not going to stop the way I play,” Landry told reporters Wednesday. “Just watch the way he runs (Sunday). We'll just have to wait and see until they come here. I don't want to say too much. I'm not going to over-talk it and make a story.”

Those comments, coupled with Maybin’s admitted goal of knocking out Bush, only fueled the hatred between these two rivals.

“I have to be on punt block to say something to him,” Pouncey quipped, referring to Maybin. “He won’t even play enough to hurt Reggie.”

Pouncey might have a point. According to Pro Football Focus, Maybin has only been on the field for 22.8 percent of the Jets’ plays and just 14.8 percent of those 115 snaps were running plays.

“I don’t even want to talk about him,” Pouncey, a former Gator teammate of Tim Tebow's said of the Jets outside linebacker. “He’s a joke.”
