FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Sure, the Jets may have caught some breaks here and there over the past few games. But are fans, and pundits alike, right to rip them for being more lucky than talented?
"It's hard to luck up and become 7-2," Damien Woody said, sitting in front of his locker Monday. "It just doesn't happen . . . People are just throwing it out there. That's all cool, but check your facts first. Who really watched the game? Did you guys watch the same game that I was a part of, because if you did, you know nothing about football. I could bring the stat sheet and just show you. We dominated Cleveland yesterday."
The Jets had 456 total yards to the Browns' 303, ran 32 more plays (91-59), and controlled the ball almost 20 minutes longer during Sunday's 26-20 overtime win.
"I hope we're lucky all the way to the Super Bowl, because we'll take it," coach Rex Ryan said. "You can make breaks, but it's funny because the good teams are always the lucky teams. I always hope we keep that trend going."
Forgiving to Folk
Despite missing three field goals against the Browns, Nick Folk isn't on the hot seat. Though not pleased by the kicker's miss on a 24-yard try, Ryan said he's "not overly concerned" by Folk's struggles.
"I know that field is hard to kick on," he said. "That natural grass with the sand base. It was tough, it's kind of loose."
Extra points
Quarterback Mark Sanchez has swelling in his right calf, but Ryan expects him to be "just fine." The coach wouldn't commit about limiting Sanchez in practice this week. Left guard Matt Slauson, who left the Cleveland game at the start of the fourth quarter because of a left knee injury, felt better Monday, Ryan said. Safety Eric Smith has an ankle, and not a wrist, injury as the coach reported Sunday. Ryan also is unsure if cornerback Dwight Lowery suffered a concussion on a kickoff in the second half of the game.
