FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Jets CEO Christopher Johnson didn’t entirely agree with Jamal Adams’ statement that the team needs more talent. Johnson believes the Jets should have won more with the talent they had, which is why Todd Bowles was fired.
“I love Jamal and I spoke to him for about half an hour today,” Johnson said. “He’s one of my favorite humans. Who wouldn’t want more talent? But I don’t think that’s the entire answer. I think we had some pretty good talent on this team already. We should have done better in the win-loss column. But I certainly appreciate his comments.”
After the Jets’ season-ending 38-3 loss to the Patriots, Adams said the Jets need to “go get big-time players. You got to go get names.”
The Jets will have about $100 million to spend in free agency. Adams said he would tell management his thoughts during his exit interview Monday and also offered to help recruit players.
General manager Mike Maccagnan agreed with Adams and said he will take him up on his offer.
“Jamal and I had a long conversation,” Maccagnan said. “Jamal is very passionate. He’s definitely one of our younger leaders on our team. After talking to him, we share the same vision and we share the same goal.
“On a side note, I told him as we go forward, the part of the recruiting in the pro free-agency process is critical and I’m going to try and use him in that a little bit. We’re both on the same page. I think if anything, our focus is the same to try and build a winning championship team here.”
