FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — The chocolate cookies were waiting for him — a mea culpa from a contrite offensive lineman trying to make amends with his quarterback.

The plate of handmade treats were the handiwork of Wesley Johnson, whose premature snap during Saturday’s loss to the Dolphins almost resulted in Bryce Petty being snapped in half by Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake.

“It was a real apology,” Petty said with a smile on Tuesday. “Really nice. Still owes me dinner, though.”

Three days after he was sandwiched by the unblocked pair of Dolphins’ defensive linemen, Petty said he expects to play Saturday in New England. “I couldn’t imagine the season ending that way,” he said of not being able to start. “I was really happy to see [all of the test came back] negative. Everything was good. It was a good hit — hits. Plural. I’ll put that [photo of the sack] in my Man Cave at some point.

“If I can take shots from those two dudes right there,” he joked, “I think I’ll be alright.”

Petty said he practiced fully on Tuesday, though an official injury report won’t be given until Wednesday.

“He’s feeling a lot better,” said coach Todd Bowles, though he said it’s too “early” to know Petty’s status for the game. “ . . . But if he continues to get better, he should be fine.”

Winters, Catapano on IR

The Jets’ banged-up offensive line was dealt another blow, as right guard Brian Winters (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve. He’s the fourth offensive linemen to be shut down this season — the others are Nick Mangold, Ryan Clady and Breno Giacomini. Outside linebacker Mike Catapano, a Bayville native and Chaminade alum, also is done for the season with a knee injury. In corresponding moves, the team signed offensive tackle Donald Hawkins and defensive lineman Brandin Bryant to the active roster and added center Kyle Friend and tight end Jason Vander Laan to the practice squad.
