Mike Pettine happy to accept both of Rex Ryan's challenges
Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine delivered his own verbal jab at Rex Ryan on Friday, right before the Browns drenched themselves with water as part of the "Ice Bucket Challenge."
"Rex, I know you want to punch me in the face," Pettine began. "Any time you want to go toe to toe, you know where to find me."
Before the Jets completed their own "Ice Bucket Challenge" -- a social media phenomenon aimed at raising awareness and money for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) -- Ryan challenged Pettine and the Browns to participate. He also delivered a playful shot at his former defensive coordinator.
"Let them take a play out of our playbook," the Jets coach said Wednesday, referring to the story earlier this year which centered on Pettine claiming the Patriots had received a copy of the Jets' playbook from Alabama coach Nick Saban, a good friend of both Ryan and Bill Belichick.
Asked later if he had purposely taken a dig at Pettine, Ryan joked: "Of course, I wanted to tweak him and get him back any chance I get. I haven't had a chance to punch him in the face, so that'll be the next time."
And it sounds like Pettine has accepted that challenge too.
