Rest assured, Jets fans, Revis Island is heading upstate.
Despite weeks of noncommittal answers about reporting to training camp, Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis will in fact be in Cortland on Thursday, according to The Associated Press.
There was speculation during minicamp that Revis would hold out for the second time in three years after he and the Jets made no headway on reworking the front-loaded four-year $46-million deal he signed in 2010.
Under his current contract, Revis, 27, will earn $13.5 million this season and next.
His unhappiness with his contract lingered and was like an elephant in the room as he continued to deflect questions about a new deal.
"Whatever you want to write," Revis told a reporter, growing more and more agitated. "I just told you, I'm getting ready for this season."
When asked if there are lingering issues between him and the Jets' front office, he said: "If something's lingering, you will find out. It's going to be written. It's going to be in the paper. I'm telling you, I'm getting ready for the season."
Revis echoed his sentiments from a month ago, saying a second holdout is possible. But that's as far as he would take the discussion. "Whatever happens in the future happens," he said. "I just said that four or five times. Didn't I say that?"
He and the Jets agreed on his front-loaded deal after the defensive back held out for 36 days and missed the entire preseason schedule of games.
General manager Mike Tannenbaum called it "an intermediate step" at the time to ensure "what we hope is an entire career of Darrelle as a Jet."
Before minicamp ended, Revis voiced his desire for a long-term deal that would in fact make him a Jet for life.
Though he has yet to get that new deal, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press -- on condition of anonymity -- that Revis will be in attendance next week.
However, if the All-Pro cornerback were to hold out and miss training camp, his current deal reportedly would be extended by three years and he'd incur daily fines of $30,000, per the new CBA.
Revis, selected as the 14th overall pick by the Jets in 2007, had 52 tackles, 21 passes defensed and four interceptions last season. The four-time Pro Bowl cornerback has 18 career interceptions and 283 tackles.
