FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- David Harris was held out of practice for a second consecutive day Thursday, still nursing his toe injury.

But Rex Ryan remains confident the inside linebacker will be on the field when the Jets host the Jaguars at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

"He feels better," Ryan said. "I still think he'll play."

Asked why he believes Harris will play, Ryan said: "Obviously, he knows the system and all that. It's not that I looked at him. The trainers feel confident that he'll be just fine. So I would expect him to be out in practice, probably [Friday]."

Ryan said he's been told Harris doesn't have a broken bone in his toe, nor does he have turf toe. He believes Harris would've practiced a little more if the Jets weren't forced to practice indoors on turf because of rain.

Pettine: Loss still hurts

Mike Pettine hasn't truly gotten over the Jets' 24-22 loss to the Jaguars two seasons ago. Josh Scobee's 21-yard field goal as time expired -- set up by Maurice Jones-Drew's heady play of taking a knee at the 1-yard line rather than score a touchdown -- capped a 12-play, 80-yard winning drive.

"We've watched that game and it's still one that it bothers us," Pettine said, "because we allowed a team to come in here and be more physical than we were. We were inconsistent that game. We had stretches that game [where] we played lights out. But we allowed a long drive early and we had a chance to close the game out, had taken the lead and we let them drive right down the field and let them kick the game-winning field goal.

"That's obviously something we never want to have happen, especially at home."

As Cro flies

Antonio Cromartie returned three of four kickoffs Sunday and that's going to continue. "Cro's probably my favorite guy as the kickoff return," special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff said.
