FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Mark Sanchez has a broken nose and will have to wear a protective plastic visor for the next couple of weeks, the Jets announced Monday.
Sanchez suffered the "minor break" after absorbing a hard blow to the face in the third quarter of the Jets' 34-24 loss to the Raiders on Sunday. He said after the game that he wasn't sure how it had happened or who had done it. He just remembered going to the sideline thinking "my nose is killing me."
Sanchez, who returned to the field wearing a plastic visor after the injury, was sacked four times in the second half.
Cromartie hurts lung, rib
Antonio Cromartie has a bruised rib and bruised lung, but coach Rex Ryan thinks he could return to practice Wednesday.
Cromartie was injured in the fourth quarter. It was the low point of a terrible afternoon for the cornerback. Earlier in the game, he made a critical fumble on a kickoff return with 40 seconds left in the third quarter. Cromartie booted the ball at the Jets' goal line and tried to fall on it. It squirted out of his hands and was recovered at the Jets' 13 by the Raiders, who scored two plays later. Cromartie also committed four penalties.
Not expecting Mangold
Ryan does not expect center Nick Mangold to return to practice Wednesday. Mangold did not make the trip to Oakland because of a high ankle sprain. Ryan did note that he is "progressing." . . . The Jets have lost backup tight end Jeff Cumberland for the season with a torn right Achilles tendon. Cumberland, a second-year pro, suffered the injury in the second quarter Sunday. Ryan said the team likely will bring in some players to shore up the position.
