FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Bart Scott doesn't get to face Tony Romo very often, given the Cowboys reside in the NFC East and Scott has spent the past nine seasons in the AFC.

But the Jets' middle linebacker has squared off against mobile quarterbacks before, and thinks it's all about making him as uncomfortable as possible.

"The key is always going to be to get a guy like him off his spot," Scott said Thursday. "Coming off a collarbone injury, you've got to make sure that you're able to get shots on him and remind him, make sure that you're very physical with him within the rules and make it a tough day for him."

Romo sometimes makes it difficult on the opposition by keeping plays alive with his feet and finding receivers after things breakdown.

"That's his greatest strength and also his greatest weakness," Scott said, "that he's willing to hang in there and extend plays and try to make plays. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. We just have to make sure we stay disciplined, stay glued to our man . . . When he breaks the pocket, we need to stay disciplined, make sure we get him on the ground."

Rex Ryan said the Jets can't relax one bit when Romo has the ball. "Don't assume the play's over. That's a big one," Ryan said. "He'll hold onto the ball longer than a lot of quarterbacks, even though he's one of the least sacked guys in the league. He does have that kind of awareness of where the pressure is and how to avoid it."

Extra points

Special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff said the Jets moved on from P Steve Weatherford, now with the Giants, because he ranked 23rd with an average of 42.6 yards per punt last year.

"To tell you the truth, I don't want to be 23rd," said Westhoff, who watched T.J. Conley beat out Chris Bryan for the job in training camp. "I'm not 23rd in anything else, so wherever we are, I'm trying to get better. So that's why we made the move."
