Antonio Cromartie has already begun exploring his options.
The veteran cornerback, who was released on Sunday by the Jets, is in Arizona for a Thursday visit with the Cardinals, a source confirmed to Newsday.
The cornerback said on ESPN Radio Monday that the Jets never reached out to him or his agent to negotiate a new contract. “We didn't hear anything from them,” Cromartie said.
He has said, though, that the “door’s still open” on a return to the Jets.
Cromartie – who turns 30 in April – carried a team-high $14.98-million cap number for 2014 and was due to earn a $5-million bonus soon. By cutting him, the Jets saved $9.5 million in cap space.
Though he dealt with a nagging hip injury throughout the 2013 season, he was a surprising Pro Bowl selection. But despite his off year, Cromartie likely will field offers from quite a few teams now that top free-agent cornerbacks Darrelle Revis, Alterraun Verner and Vontae Davis are off the board.
