The Jets are donating $1 million to help aid the people of Ukraine, the team announced Tuesday.

The donations will be split between various organizations, with each receiving $100,000 over the course of a year. Ukraine was invaded by Russia on Feb. 24.

“These donations will positively impact Ukrainian refugees and their families with essential supplies,” Jets chairman Woody Johnson said in a statement. “The need for resources is continuously growing. Our thoughts continue to be with the innocent lives who have been affected and all those who are suffering.”

Johnson’s wife, Suzanne, is of Ukrainian descent. She grew up in a Ukrainian neighborhood in New York. Suzanne Johnson’s mother was born to Ukranian immigrant parents, and her father is from a town outside of Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital. He came to the United States after World War II at the age of 21.

“Today in Ukraine, many people are suffering. Because of this, it is important to us to provide assistance to organizations making a true difference on the ground,” Suzanne Johnson said in a statement. “My family and I are heartbroken by the devastation and loss and are praying for the individuals who have become refugees and those still living and working in Ukraine.”
