CORTLAND, N.Y. - D'Brickashaw Ferguson has a new deal, and he couldn't be happier.

The left tackle inked a six-year, $60-million extension last month, quietly coming to terms on a lengthy pact that should keep him in a Jets uniform through the prime of his career.

"It was real positive, just the fact that we were able to come to an agreement and find something that both of us could really take pride in," the Freeport product told Newsday Monday. "There's always going to be a business as well as an athletic side. I don't care, contract done or not, there's always that side, so every player is forced to deal with it, and it just happens at different times with different people."

Ferguson is the first of the so-called "Core Four" to get a new contract. Nick Mangold, David Harris and, of course, Darrelle Revis are pining for contracts as well. Revis' holdout could be lengthy, and Ferguson supports his decision to do what he believes is best for him.

"Everybody's situation is a little different," Ferguson said. "He's an excellent player and I definitely wish him success in whatever he does."

Bosom buddies

Mark Brunell was brought in to be the No. 2 quarterback and mentor Mark Sanchez. The two drove up here together from New Jersey on Sunday and Sanchez already is enjoying having the 39-year-old veteran in the mix.

"He's so supportive," Sanchez said. "Even in your first day when you throw bad balls, he says, 'C'mon, you're better than that.' He's great to have around so far. Maybe he'll get on my nerves sooner or later. No, I'm just kidding."

Extra points

Vladimir Ducasse and Matt Slauson split time with the first team at left guard, which is the plan until someone wins the position battle . . . The Jets signed rookie WR Vic Hall, who originally was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent.
