Rex Ryan suggested yesterday that the high-flying Lions’ offense, which has averaged 38 points per game at home this season, won’t be so effective when the Jets come to town on Sunday.

“Nope, I definitely don’t,” Ryan said, per Tom Kowalski of MLive.com. “I just don’t believe that’s going to happen. Come out and prove me wrong, but I doubt it. This is a proud group right here on defense. We haven’t really been healthy, we’re just now getting healthy and I think, like I say, you’ll see. This is an excellent defense.”

More Ryan: “Do you expect to shut out Detroit ? Of course not, they’ve got a very talented team and all that kind of stuff, but this is a great defense coming into town.”

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz, who normally stays out of the headlines with his quotes, took a mild jab at Ryan.

“They’re really good at stopping the run,” Schwartz said, “and they’ve done a good job of putting pressure on the quarterback. I think they have 15 sacks … we have 22. I think that’s what it is.”

The Lions actually have 23 sacks, and they also have eight interceptions to the Jets’ five.
