Kolb supports Vick, but for how much longer?
It is not surprising that Kevin Kolb would express his support for Michael Vick even after Kolb was benched in favor of the former Falcons' starter. But it still remains to be seen whether Kolb will even be with the team by next month's trading deadline.
Even head coach Andy Reid, who announced the stunning move to keep Vick as his starter after repeatedly insisting Kolb wouldn't lose his job to injury (concussion), wouldn't guarantee Kolb will be with the team for the remainder of the season.
"I want to be out there," Kolb said, per Delawareonline.com. "I have confidence in [Reid] that he's going what's right for our team, for [Vick], for my career. That's the only way I can approach it.
"In this business, there are a lot of changes. If you can't roll with them and get better from them, you better just quit. And that's obviously not the card for me. I plan on getting better from this."
Don't be surprised to see Kolb wind up in Cleveland if the Eagles do decide to trade him. Former Eagles general manager Tom Heckert, who was with the team when it drafted Kolb, is now the Browns' GM. And he has plenty of sway with team president Mike Holmgren, who oversees all major football decisions.
Browns starter Jake Delhomme suffered a sprained ankle in an opening-day loss to the Buccaneers in Tampa, and he missed last week's loss to the Chiefs in Cleveland. Delhomme is viewed as a stop-gap solution to the Browns' quarterback situation, while Kolb would be a considered a long-term starter.
