2011: ROBERT GRIFFIN III
Quarterback, Baylor
Throughout the season, it looked like Stanford QB Andrew Luck had a lock on the award. RGIII stayed in the hunt all year, though, putting up big numbers in the air and on the ground, capped by a signature 45-38 victory over Oklahoma where Griffin threw for 479 yards and four TDs. He finished with 3,998 yards passing, 36 passing TDs, 644 yards rushing and 9 rushing TDs. Credit: AP

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III will likely be gone by the second overall pick in this year's draft, and he enhanced his stock even further this morning when he ran a blazing 4.38 in the 40-yard dash. That may be the fastest 40 time in Combine history.

The NFL Network reported that Michael Vick ran a 4.33 at the 2001 Combine, but other reports suggest Vick didn't run the year he came into the draft. Vick, a former Virginia Tech star, was a frist-round pick of the Falcons.

It's widely assumed that Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck will go on the first pick to the Colts, and that Griffin will go No. 2. The Rams own the second pick, but since they already have a franchise-caliber quarterback in Sam Bradford, they're expected to trade the pick. And by the early look of things, they can expect a king's ransom in exchange for the choice.

Among the teams expected to make a play for that spot to select Griffin: Cleveland, Washington, Seattle and Kansas City.

Luck was no slouch in the 40-yard dash either. He ran a 4.66 in his first attempt, and then a 4.59 in his second.
