NFL commissioner won't discipline Vick
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has told Michael Vick he will not face disciplinary action following a shooting at the quarterback's birthday party six weeks ago. Goodell spoke with Vick Tuesday while visiting the Eagles during his training camp tour.
The NFL and the Eagles have been looking into a shooting at a nightclub in Virginia Beach, Va., where Vick held his 30th birthday party on June 25. Police say no charges will be filed because of a lack of cooperation by witnesses and the victim, who Vick's attorney Larry Woodward identified as Quanis Phillips - a co-defendant in Vick's federal dogfighting case.
Haynesworth not tested
The Albert Haynesworth saga has now reached its sixth day. The two-time All-Pro defensive tackle did not attempt the Washington Redskins conditioning test. He won't be allowed to practice until he passes it. Haynesworth tried to take the test Monday morning, but he pulled up after three back-and-forth sprints because he felt some irritation in his left knee. Haynesworth failed the test on the first day of training camp Thursday after taking an extended bathroom break in the middle of it. He failed again Friday when he didn't post a sufficient time, then didn't take it Saturday or Sunday because of soreness in his left knee.
Babineaux suspended
The NFL suspended Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux for one game after his arrest last year on marijuana charges. Babineaux will miss the Falcons' Sept. 12 opener at Pittsburgh. He also has been fined one week's pay, $260,000 of his $2.2 million salary. Babineaux pleaded guilty to felony marijuana possession July 19.
