NFL nixes help from AFL-CIO in labor dispute
The AFL-CIO has offered to mediate the longstanding dispute between the NFL and the NFL Players Association in their attempt to reach a new collective bargaining agreement.
Don’t hold your breath for such an arrangement, however.
In fact, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello poured cold water on the idea.
“No one would suggest that the owner of an NFL club or a member of its board could serve as an effective, neutral mediator,” Aiello said in a statement. “The same is true of the leader of the AFL-CIO. The NFL Players Association is itself a member of the AFL-CIO and the head of the NFLPA sits on the AFL-CIO's board.”
Back to the drawing board.
