Former Giants receiver Plaxico Burress, who is investigating the idea of becoming a current Giants receiver, was set to meet with team officials today about the possibility of re-joining the team this season.
But that meeting will have to wait until at least Friday due to rules regarding the expedited free agency system currently in place. An NFL source told Newsday that unrestricted free agents cannot meet with clubs - either at their facilities or off-site - until Friday. Teams' own unrestricted free agents - Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw, for instance - can meet with teams before Friday.
Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson agreed to a $72 million contract yesterday after meeting with team officials in Florida. But because Johnson played last season with Carolina, the meeting was permissible.
