No charges against Roethlisberger, but suspension still possible

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not be charged in connection with an incident last month in which he was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old college student in Milledgeville, Ga.

Authorities announced at a news conference this afternoon that they could not prove their case beyondd a reasonable doubt. However, District Attorney Fred Bright said questions remain about what happened between Roethlisberger (pictured) and the student inside a bathroom at the club where the incident occurred. Bright said the accuser and her family told authorities they did not want to press charges.

Roethlisberger, 28, owns a home about 30 miles north of Milledgeville.

The quarterback is also being sued by a woman who claims he raped her in 2008 at a hotel and casino in Lake Tahoe. Roethliseberger has denied the allegations.

Despite today's developments, Roethlisberger still faces potential sanctions from the NFL or the Steelers. Under the league's personal conduct policy, the league — or the team — is empowered to suspend Roethlisberger for any violations.
