Bill Belichick keeps adding bodies to a defensive line that may prove to be the heart of the defense this season.
The Patriots' coach has been a major proponent of the 3-4 defense, which uses three down linemen and four linebackers. But the way Belichick is collecting linemen, it appears there may be a sea change in the Patriots' approach this year.
In addition to trading for Albert Haynesworth, the Patriots have signed former Jets' defensive end Shaun Ellis and former Redskins defensive end Andre Carter. And Belichick told reporters today that he has re-signed defensive tackle Gerard Warren, who had been released after he failed his preseason physical.
