The Seahawks will be without wide receiver Percy Harvin for an extended period, but the hip injury that required surgery could have been worse.

According to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, the surgery went "very well," and Carroll is hopeful of having Harvin back later in the regular season. It's uncertain exactly what the recovery timetable will be, but the Seahawks are sufficiently optimistic not to place Harvin on season-ending injured reserve.

The Seahawks acquired Harvin in a trade with the Vikings and re-worked his contract, meaning they have a huge investment in seeing that Harvin gets on the field ASAP.
