Report: Darrelle Revis won't hold out

Darrelle Revis has offered conflicting signals about whether or not he'll report to training camp on time. But according to an Associated Press report, the Jets' All Pro cornerback will not hold out in a contract dispute and will show up to the team's Cortland, NY camp on Thursday.
The report quotes a source familiar with Revis' plans. Revis himself has not said definitively whether he'll be there. In an interview earlier this month during a youth football clinic in his hometown of Aliquippa, Pa., Revis said when asked if he would be in camp on time, "I don't know. That's up to [Jets general manager] Mike Tannenbaum."
Revis signed a four-year, $46 million contract in 2010, and the deal paid him a whopping $32.5 million in the first two years. He is scheduled to make $13.5 million over the final two years of the deal.
Shortly after Revis ended a 36-day holdout in 2010, Tannenbaum said the contract was "an intermediate step to what we hope is an entire career of Darrelle as a Jet, for him to retire a Jet, for him to hopefully go to the Hall of Fame one day as a Jet and for him to be in our ring of honor."
The AP reports that language in Revis' contract that addresses a potential holdout was a deterrent. According to the contract, the current deal would automatically be extended through the 2014 season if he held out this year. The Jets may opt to rework Revis' deal next season when there is only one year remaining on the contract. It is typical of NFL teams to extend contracts for key players in the final year of the deals.
