The Chiefs have announced this morning that they are parting company with general manager Scott Pioli.

The move is likely a precursor to the hiring of former Eagles coach Andy Reid

Pioli's continued presence in Kansas City was likely a deterrent to Reid joining the team, since he was believed to want to work with a general manager of his own choosing. Packers director of personnel John Dorsey,  also a candidate with the Jets.

Pioli was a former Jets' exeuctive, although he's not expected to be considered for their current general manager search. Pioli eventually left for the Patriots to join Bill Belichick's staff in New England, so it's not as if team owner Woody Johnson has any warm feelings left over from that experience.

Besides, it's not easy selling a GM whose team is coming off a 2-14 season.
