Shaun Rogers tried bringing a loaded gun on a plane

I promise this is not a late April Fool's Day joke...

Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers was arrested yesterday at Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland after a loaded .45 caliber handgun was found in his carry-on luggage.

Rogers (pictured) was arrested at 12:15 p.m. "without incident," according to police and he spent last night in jail. No chargers have been filed yet, but the 31-year old could face steep fines, if not jail time. He could also face a suspension from the NFL.

It was unclear at the time of the arrest whether Rogers had a permit for the gun, or if he was traveling with anyone. It's also unclear whether Rogers simply forgot he had the gun in his bag, or if he is stupid enough to believe that it's O.K. to bring a gun onto a plane.

Said Browns president Mike Holmgren in a statement: "We will continue to gather additional information, and until the legal process has taken its course, we will reserve any further comment."

A message seeking comment from the Associated Press was left unanswered by Rogers' agent Kennard McGuire.

Rogers, no stranger to trouble, was in Cleveland for the Browns' voluntary offseason program. The three-time Pro Bowler was suspended four games in 2006 after taking a banned substance to control his weight, and in 2007, an exotic dancer claimed Rogers inappropriately touched her in a club, though he was cleared of any wrongdoing after an investigation.

Rogers, who is 6-4, 350 pounds, is a beast on the field, in the mold of an Albert Haynesworth. The Houston native (he played his college ball at Texas), has 35.5 career sacks, 50 tackles for a loss, four forced fumbles, 16 blocked kicks (field goals and extra points), and even a 66-yard interception return for a touchdown in his 10 pro seasons.

But some have questioned his work ethic in the past, and the Browns were believed to be shopping him around in trade offers. This latest news certainly won't help that cause.
