T.O. says perception is the reason he's out of work
Like so many Americans these days, Terrell Owens is out of work.
But Owens said Friday to the NFL Network that he's out of a job not because his skill set has diminished at age 36, but rather there's a perception around the league that he's a locker room cancer.
"I've heard a lot of the reasons why I'm not on a team right now," Owens said. "It's because people feel I've disrupted some teams, I'm a cancer — I've heard all those things. They've said that for the last five, six years. The teams I've been on, if you ask in that locker room how I've been as a teammate and as a person, it's contridictory to what's been displayed out there."
Owens (pictured, middle) made a recruiting trip to Cincinnati, but the Bengals opted to go with Antonio Bryant instead. Owens and Baltimore have always tangoed, but the Ravens traded for Anquan Boldin.
So where does that leave T.O., who caught 55 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns for the Bills last season? Some have said a reunion with Donovan McNabb in Washington is possible. Owens, who said he's spoken to McNabb, would be all for it.
"He already knew his situation prior to being traded, so we talked about the idea of actually playing together," he said. "That was something I welcome with open arms, and he as well. If that was a situation to come about and that would happen, we know what we could do on the football field together."
Owens said other teams were interested — he specifically named Seattle as one — but in reality, he has no idea where he may land.
"I know there's a process where teams have drafted players, they're looking at free agents," he said. "They have to go through minicamps, the OTAs and eventually into training camp, and there are some things that may transpire. There are 32 teams out there, so you never know what could happen. So I'm looking forward to the opportunity of wherever I may play."
