If Tim Tebow never plays another down of professional football, at least there's this: His last pass in an NFL uniform went for a touchdown.

Tebow, who threw that touchdown in the final seconds of Thursday night's preseasson finale against the Giants, was released by the Patriots on the final cut. The news was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tebow was a longshot to make the team, especially after struggling during the three preseason games he played. Released after last season by the Jets, Tebow signed a two-year deal with the Patriots. There was no guaranteed money in that deal, and certainly no guarantee that he'd make the team.

The Patriots will now go with two quarterbacks - future Hall of Famer Tom Brady and backup Ryan Mallett.

Tebow's next top? It's questionable whether another team would take a chance on him at this point, especially since he appears to have regressed badly since his days as a starter in 2011 with the Broncos.

There's always the CFL or the Arena Football League, but Tebow has always maintained he'd prefer to play in the NFL. Not sure at this point whether there will be another opportunity.
