A look at the top three safeties in the NFL draft this year.

ERIC BERRY

6-foot, 211, Tennessee

There isn't much lacking in his game, though some say he doesn't have the prototypical size of an NFL safety. But he's a good blitzer, can play the pass and is extremely good in run support, typically recognizing quickly where the play is headed and making an explosive move to the ball to blow the play up. He's good at open-field tackles.

EARL THOMAS

5-10, 208, Texas

He's a hybrid safety/cornerback who some say is too undersized to play safety in the NFL. He has outstanding speed, as displayed at Texas' pro day when he blazed his way to a 4.3 in the 40-yard dash. That speed and his upside make Thomas a player to keep an eye on.

TAYLOR MAYS

6-3, 230, USC

Has what many consider a freakish combination of speed, athleticism and size. But he sometimes has a bit too much of former Cowboys safety Roy Williams in him and looks to make the big hit rather than the sure tackle. His versatility allows him to be moved around in various schemes, but he has to work on technique. There are also questions about his maturity and dedication.
